For now, I kept i2mfan(last owner) text.
Starting in 2008, the
MIS
specification is now
No more reasons not to add it to current software or hardware. Ask them to add it to your DivX standalone player or your favorite media player. It take's just one email. What is a .MIS (i2mfan definition)? A .MIS is a metadata text file formatted to help in the organization of all the movies you got in folders. I2M will try to give the best movie title based on the file name. Once, you have given the good IMDB title, a .MIS will be written for each movie file. The .MIS will contain almost all the information that is on the IMDB.COM from plot, trivia, goof, actors, crew.... So instead of going to the IMDB.COM for information, you just read it from the .MIS with notepad or better yet, from MIV. Useful if your are offline! I record a lot of movies with my computer video capture card from my TV source. With I2M and MIV, my parents or I, don't need to remember what the movie was all about because of the .MIS. It goes well beyond the EPG. I also put the URL of the movie from IMDB.COM to be able to click on actors afterward to see in what movie he/she was in when I'm connected to the internet. Thank you IMDB.COM to be open and make available most of your database. For now, MIV is the only application that can read and use the .MIS. MIV will create a small database based on each .MIS in a folder and when you select a movie thru MIV, it will read the .MIS and show you the information in a 10 foot interface (HTPC) so you could see it from your couch, monitor or bedroom TV if you have a computer attached. A wireless mouse or a mouse with a long cable is useful if you want to seat from a distance from the monitor. I hope hardware DVD (DiVX) will support it in the future. The registered version of MIV will give you additional features but the unregistered one is still useful for basic needs. Example with: Star Wars: Episode III - Revenge of the Sith (sith.mis, 125Kb because of a lot of information in the full database but mostly near 25KB per movies)I entered "sith" in the "Search for" of I2M and I ask to create the .MIS. I could watch the information without creating a .MIS. I will scan/download my DVD cases later on and add the pictures in the .MIS and will create a new profile in MIV so I could have my own "Front end" for my DVD collection. I will still have to use the physically disc to play it unless I ripped it. Those with a DVD profiler like software could ask them to have an option to export to a .MIS. Things I like about MIV:
- MIV keep the place where I stopped the video/podcast. (it's in the registered version) - Can organize my files with the help of the Profiles manager. I created profiles for movies, TV series, mp3, mp3 unsorted, podcast, funny video from the web, DVD (read files) ... My files can be wherever on my network, I just point to the shared folder! - I registered version 1.x and now I have version 2 for free. I paid once and that was not much. - Parental control (or uncle): I can hide my mature movies from my nephew/nieces :-D - I don't have to create a profile to play one file (new in v2.x) - Big buttons (I don't have to sit near the monitor) and it's perfect on my HTPC - Can still use other players if the format is not supported (profile mode) like (.MOV or VIDEO_TS_IFO) - Don't need a .MIS to play something (hey, I'm lazy sometimes) - Chapters: If a have 2 files for a movie/mini series, I can create a very simple chapter in the .MIS so it can play it in one shot.
chapter-multi :Very simple Tip with Info2MIS: Name the files like that so that I2M points to them when it writes the .MIS. It' also good for video files not in the database. I use I2M for small video clip to create a .MIS. D:\Movies\Horror
